I have degrees, and yet you will still see me at a University or a community college on a weekend taking a non-credit computer workshop or a business management course for credit. You need to continue to polish your skills! Education is never over!
If you are pursuing an Associate's Degree and are NOT planning to pursue a Bachelor's Degree, I would highly recommend the following courses:
1. Business classes such as: business writing, business communications, and finances (so crucial in the meeting industry).
2. Grammar is IMPERATIVE. If you cannot spell, no need to apply.
3. Speech (you will be called upon to present to a committee or a client. You must be prepared).
4. A technology course or workshop which focuses on what is currently happening with the internet/worldwide web, how to email, sending attachments, and "managing" your emails
5. A computer course on word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. Powerpoint is an additional bonus but not necessary.
6. A computer course on graphics. (Yes, you will be asked to make signs, posters, announcements, nametents, badges, etc.)
7. Creative thinking or a literature course....you need to "expand the windmills of your horizons".......
8. A hobby-type of course....mine, anything sports-related or candlemaking! (Gotta have fun!)
9. Some miscellaneous tips: the meeting industry is all about HOSPITALITY. If you are not a hospitable-kind of person, no need to apply. If you don't like people no need to apply.
Thanks for asking,
