Sundries Newsletter

Volume Number Two: Winter 2000, pge 1

I decided to write Sundries because I felt the need for it. Your overwhelming responses to the first issue showed me that all of you agreed. Your feedback is always welcomed and appreciated. Keep it coming.

The drive of the business world to provide a faster, better product at a lower cost has caused organizations to have less time to deal with the strategic responsibility during the event planning process.

Planning an event is not just caring for the details, or "logistic junkies" as I have come to call it. Details are just the tip of the iceberg. Any event planner worth their salt asks the right questions to gain what the true purpose of the event is for the organization.

If the goal of the event is to raise funds for your organization, it is our responsibility to help our clients clearly define strategies to meet their fundraising goal. If the goal of the event is to raise awareness of your organization, it is our responsibility to guide our clients toward defining proper strategies to meet their marketing goal.

This is the most satisfying part for me....guiding clients through the rigors of creating event strategies in order to meet the goals of the event.

Also, it is our responsibility to make sure the attendees know the purpose of the event.

If the theme does not correspond with the call to action or reason for the event, have we managed to help our clients meet their goal? The answer is obviously no.

We as event planners want to help you. We do more than just do what our customers ask for. As professional event planners we actively work with our clients in designing strategies to get the message across.

We need to engage the attendees, get them interested, establish contact, and build relationships that will last for a very long time.

Wait....isn't that how we should be doing business all the time?

In the Spring Issue I had you questioning why I was giving you a gift when many of you did not know me. Now others have stepped forward to share their gifts.

In this issue I would like to introduce a friend and colleague, John Clendenin. He recently created the SCORE® system which has been refined by Michele & Company for the event planning industry. The use of SCORE has helped our clients achieve their event goals and effectively deliver the message of their events. Michele

In the meantime, sit back and enjoy a gift from the both of us....
